Luis Gutiérrez Soto (born in 1900, died in 1977) was a famous Spanish architect. He designed many buildings, mostly in the city of Madrid.

A Life in Architecture

Luis Gutiérrez Soto was born on June 6, 1900, in Madrid, Spain. After finishing his studies in 1923, he became a very important architect for the government. He was the Chief Architect for the Ministry of Public Instruction. This meant he designed many schools until 1929. One of his first big projects was the Cine Callao, a famous movie theater built in 1926.

Changing Styles

At first, Luis Gutiérrez Soto followed a style called Rationalism in his designs. This style focused on simple, practical shapes. However, during a time in Spain called the Francoist dictatorship (from 1939 to 1975), he changed his approach. He started using more traditional Spanish styles. He became well-known for a style called neo-Herrerian. This style was popular during that period.

A Busy Career

Luis Gutiérrez Soto passed away in Madrid on February 4, 1977. He was buried in the Mingorrubio Cemetery. He worked as an architect for over 60 years! During this long career, he created more than 650 projects. Most of these amazing buildings are in Madrid.
