Luka Karabatic (born April 19, 1988) is a talented French professional handball player. He plays as a pivot for the famous Paris Saint-Germain team. He is also a key member of the French national team. Luka is the younger brother of Nikola Karabatić, who is considered one of the best handball players in the world.

Early Life and Handball Journey

Luka Karabatic was born in France. He comes from a family deeply involved in handball. His father, Branko Karabatic, was a handball goalkeeper for the Yugoslavian national team. His older brother, Nikola, became a world-famous handball player.

Interestingly, Luka first chose to play tennis. He even won a French championship for 10-year-olds in 1998. However, when he was 19, in 2007, Luka decided to switch to handball. He began training with the youth team of Montpellier Handball.

Joining Montpellier's Senior Team

In 2009, Luka joined the senior team at Montpellier. This was the same year his brother Nikola returned to the club. In his first two years as a professional player, Luka helped Montpellier win the French championship twice, in 2009 and 2010.

After these successful seasons, Montpellier extended his contract. He became an important player, supporting the main pivot, Issam Tej. In June 2006, Luka made his first appearance for the French national team in a friendly tournament held in Argentina.

Moving to Pays d'Aix UC

In September 2012, Luka left Montpellier Handball due to a serious situation. He then signed with Pays d'Aix Université Club, a team that had just moved up to the top league. His brother Nikola also joined this club. In their first season together, the Karabatic brothers helped the team finish 9th in the league.

International Success with France

Luka Karabatic began playing for the French national team in major competitions in 2014. His first big tournament was the EHF Euro in Denmark.

World and European Championships

In 2015, Luka achieved a huge milestone by winning the World Championship with France. He continued to be a vital part of the team's success, winning another World Championship in 2017. He also earned a silver medal in 2023 and a bronze medal in 2019 at the World Championships.

Luka has also had great success in the European Championships. He won gold medals in 2014 and 2024, and a bronze medal in 2018.

Olympic Games Achievements

Luka Karabatic has also shined at the Olympic Games. He won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Later, he achieved the ultimate dream for many athletes: a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. These achievements show his dedication and skill as a top handball player.
