Lummus Park is a super cool public park in Miami Beach, Florida. It's huge, about 74 acres, and sits right by the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. This park is a popular spot for both locals and visitors to relax and have fun!

Exploring Lummus Park

Lummus Park is located on the eastern side of Ocean Drive. It stretches from 5th Street all the way to 15th Street. In the mid-1980s, the park got a big makeover. It became an important part of the plan to improve the famous Miami Beach Architectural District in South Beach.

What You'll See in the Park

As you walk along Ocean Drive, you'll notice wide, grassy areas and tall, swaying palm trees. There are also fun things like volleyball courts where you can play with friends. You'll also find pull-up bars if you want to get some exercise.

A special wavy path, called the Promenade, runs through the park. It separates the green grass from the sandy beach. This path goes up to 21st Street, where it then turns into a boardwalk. The design of this wavy sidewalk was inspired by a famous Brazilian architect named Roberto Burle Marx. He designed a similar oceanfront walk at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Lummus Park on Screen

Lummus Park is so pretty that it's often used as a background for photo shoots. You might even recognize it from TV shows and movies! It was a popular spot for many scenes in the old TV series "Miami Vice". Today, the park and the cool Art Deco buildings along Ocean Drive are still featured in many films and TV shows set in Miami. For example, you can see it in episodes of the USA Network's show Burn Notice.

Fun Events at the Park

Every year, Lummus Park hosts an exciting event called the Nautica South Beach Triathlon. This competition is a big challenge for athletes! It includes three parts:

  • A 1.5-kilometer swim in the ocean.
  • A 40-kilometer bike ride.
  • A 10-kilometer run.

It's a great event to watch or even participate in if you're feeling adventurous!
