László Mandur (born February 2, 1958 – died October 13, 2020) was an important Hungarian politician, photographer, and economist. He is best known for serving as one of the Deputy Speakers of the Hungarian Parliament from May 15, 2002, to May 13, 2010. He was also a member of the Hungarian Parliament for many years.

László Mandur's Journey in Politics

Early Life and Education

László Mandur finished high school in 1976. He then studied to become a production engineer, graduating in 1979. A production engineer helps plan and manage how things are made. After his studies, he worked on building the Ferihegy 2 part of the Budapest Airport.

From 1981 to 1989, he was involved with the Communist Youth League in Budapest. This was a group for young people connected to the ruling party at the time. He later became a managing director for different companies, including Budapest Radio Ltd. and Antel Invest Ltd. He also continued his education, earning a degree from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences in 1991 and becoming a certified accountant in 1992.

Starting His Political Journey

László Mandur was one of the people who helped start the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) in 1989. This party became one of Hungary's main political groups. He held various leadership roles within the party, especially in Budapest. He was part of the party's leadership in Budapest's 3rd district and later became the president of the Budapest branch of the party in 2000.

He also worked on important economic and information technology topics for the Socialist Party. His work helped shape the party's ideas and plans for the country.

Leading in Parliament

In 1994, László Mandur first ran for mayor and became a representative in Budapest's 3rd district. He led the Socialist Party's group of representatives there. He also worked on committees for the Budapest Assembly.

In 2002, he was elected to the Hungarian Parliament. This was a big step in his political career. Soon after, on May 15, 2002, he was chosen to be a Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. A Deputy Speaker helps lead the meetings of Parliament and makes sure rules are followed. He held this important position for eight years, until May 13, 2010.

He was re-elected to Parliament in both the 2006 and 2010 elections. This showed that people continued to support him.

Later Years in Public Service

László Mandur decided to leave his seat in Parliament on November 18, 2013. He did this because he was appointed to the board of the Public Service Foundation. This foundation works to support public services in Hungary. He served on this board until 2019, continuing his work in public service.

Personal Life

László Mandur was married to Erzsébet Lantos. He passed away on October 13, 2020, at the age of 62.
