M-Girls is a popular Malaysian girl group. It was formed in 2001. The group had four members: Queenzy Cheng, Angeline Khoo, Cass Chin, and Crystal Ong.

Their music was released in many countries. However, the group faced a big problem: piracy. This means their music was copied and shared illegally. Because of this, their music company, Starmedia, stopped making new M-Girls albums in 2014. This news came out when their Chinese New Year album True Happiness was released.

In 2015, M-Girls released one last Chinese New Year album called New Spring Holiday. After that, the group left Starmedia. They started their own company, called MG Entertainment. Their first album with this new company was The New Year is Coming in 2016.

Since 2017, the members of M-Girls have been taking a break. They are not making albums together as a group. Instead, each member is working on their own music and projects.

Career Highlights

Starting Out

Before M-Girls was formed, all the members were with another company called Ya-Ko Enterprise. Angeline Khoo was even part of a 7-member girl group called Seven Fairies.

First Albums and a Member Leaves

M-Girls officially started in 2001. Their first Chinese New Year song was "Happily Welcoming the Harvest Year". This song was very popular. It sold over 50,000 copies and earned a special "platinum status".

In 2004, M-Girls released a Chinese New Year album with another group called Four Golden Princess. The album was named "Flowers Blossom in the Spring". Its music video set a new record in Malaysia. It featured 108 lion dancers, which was the most ever in a music video at that time!

In 2005, M-Girls released "Happy Year". This album was filmed in Australia. After this album, Cass Chin decided to leave the group. She wanted to focus on her studies.

Changes in the Group

After Cass Chin left, M-Girls released "Nile River" in 2005. This was their last regular pop album for a while.

In 2010, after their Chinese New Year album "Abundant Wealth", Queenzy Cheng also left the group. Her contract with the company had ended.

Later Years and Break

In 2014, M-Girls released their Chinese New Year album "True Joy". This was a big moment. Their company, Starmedia, announced that they would stop making M-Girls albums. This was because of the illegal sharing of their music online.

In 2015, M-Girls had their final concert for Hai-O in Malaysia. They also released their 2015 Chinese New Year album, "New Spring Holiday". For the first time, they covered an English song called "Happy CNY". They also sang a Hokkien song called "發大財" (which means "fortune").

Filming for their 2016 Chinese New Year album started in September 2015. This album was called "年來了" (The New Year is Coming). It was their first album since they left Starmedia and started their own company, MG Entertainment.

In 2017, M-Girls announced they would take a break. Each member wanted to work on their own projects.
