Peter Jones, known professionally as MC Shy D, is an American rapper and music producer. He was born in the Bronx, New York. Later, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. This made him one of the first well-known rappers from Atlanta.
MC Shy D signed with Luke Skyywalker Records. He released two albums with them. These were Got to Be Tough (1987) and Comin' Correct in 88 (1988). He then released his third album, Don't Sweat Me, in 1990. His fourth album, The Comeback, came out in 1993. In 1996, he released Recordnize with DJ Smurf. His most recent album, Against the Odds, was released in 1999. He worked with Charlotte 'Tha Rhythum' Crooms on this album.
MC Shy D is also a cousin of the famous DJ and hip hop artist, Afrika Bambaataa. He once had a disagreement with fellow rapper Luther Campbell. MC Shy D felt he was owed money for his early albums. A court later decided that he should receive money for his work.
