Madonna and Child with St Anthony of Padua and St Roch

The Madonna and Child with St Anthony of Padua and St Roch is a famous painting from around 1511. It was created by a very important Italian artist named Titian. This painting shows Mary (often called the Madonna), her baby son Jesus, and two saints: Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Roch.

This artwork was first given to Philip IV of Spain, who was a king. It was a gift from his viceroy of Naples, a high-ranking official named Ramiro Núñez de Guzmán. Today, you can see this beautiful painting in the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain.

For a long time, people weren't sure who painted it! In 1657, records at the Escorial Monastery said it was by an artist called "Bordonon," which might have been a mistake for Paris Bordone. Later, experts thought it was by Giorgione, then Pordenone, and even Francesco Vecellio. But eventually, most art experts agreed that it was indeed painted by Titian. They looked closely at how it was put together and its balanced design to figure this out.
