Magic Kids was a popular Argentine TV channel. It showed cartoons, anime, and live shows. The channel was for kids and young teens. It started on January 12, 1995. Magic Kids stopped broadcasting on May 24, 2006, because of money problems.
Many people remember Magic Kids for bringing Japanese animation to Latin America in the 1990s. When it was very popular, Magic Kids had many products. These included special drinks, toys, and a monthly magazine.
About Magic Kids
Magic Kids was first planned as "The Big Channel." The idea was to make a channel for very young kids. This would help Pramer, the owner, sell their toys. Later, the channel changed its name to Magic Kids.
At first, the channel showed American shows. These included Power Rangers, X-Men, and Spider-Man. Later, Magic Kids started showing more Japanese anime series. Anime was cheaper to get. It also made Magic Kids different from channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.
Original Shows
As Magic Kids grew, it also started making its own shows. One of the first was A Jugar con Hugo. This was an interactive game show. It started one year after the channel launched. The show stayed on the air almost until the channel closed.
Then came Nivel X. This was a weekly show about video games. Lionel Campoy and Natalia Dim were the hosts. Another popular show was El Club del Ánime. Leandro Oberto hosted it first, then Mariela Carril.
Expanding and Closing
At first, Magic Kids was only available in Argentina. But soon, the channel began to expand to other countries. In Chile, some cable companies started showing Magic Kids in 1995.
However, the channel expanded too quickly. Magic Kids could not get the rights to its most popular shows outside Argentina. Many of its best shows were replaced with older, less popular ones. These were cheaper to broadcast. Also, the economic crisis in Argentina in 2001 hurt the channel. Magic Kids stopped showing anime and lost its advantage over other channels.
In early 2006, Magic Kids stopped making its own shows. In May of the same year, the channel finally went off the air.
