Mahlon Mitchell is a firefighter and a leader for firefighters in Wisconsin. He was born on February 24, 1977. He became the president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin in 2011. He was the youngest and first African American to hold this important job. He also leads a group called the "Sable Flames," which is for African American firefighters in Madison. Mahlon Mitchell's Early Life and Career
Mahlon Mitchell was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in a town called Delavan, Wisconsin. Before becoming a firefighter, he worked to help young people. He was a "street outreach coordinator," connecting kids who needed help with community services. He also worked as a real estate agent for six years.
Mitchell has been a firefighter in Madison, Wisconsin, for over fifteen years. In 2010, he was promoted to a higher rank, becoming a lieutenant. He also helped at a special summer camp called the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety's Burn Camp. This camp helps young people who have been injured by burns. Mitchell was a counselor there and even directed the camp for five years.
Helping Firefighters with New Laws

However, he was not elected in the main election on June 5, 2012. He received 1,156,520 votes, while his opponent, Rebecca Kleefisch, received 1,301,739 votes.
In 2018, Mitchell ran for Governor of Wisconsin. He was seeking the Democratic Party's nomination. He came in second place in that election, behind Tony Evers.
