Makoto Kakuda (角田 誠, Kakuda Makoto, born 10 July 1983) is a retired Japanese football player. He used to play as a defender. Today, he is the manager of Reilac Shiga.

Makoto Kakuda's Football Journey
Makoto Kakuda was born in Uji, Japan, on July 10, 1983. He grew up loving football. He became a professional player and later a manager.
Starting with Kyoto Sanga FC
Kakuda began his professional career in 2001. He joined Kyoto Purple Sanga, a team in the J2 League. This was the second-highest football league in Japan.
In his first year, his team was promoted to the J1 League. This is Japan's top football league. In 2002, Kyoto Sanga FC won the 2002 Emperor's Cup. This was a big win for the club.
However, in 2003, the team finished last. They were moved back down to the J2 League.
Playing for Nagoya Grampus Eight
In 2004, Kakuda moved to Nagoya Grampus Eight. This team played in the J1 League. He played in many different positions. He was a defender, but also played as a defensive midfielder. He even played on the right side of the field.
In 2006, he went back to Kyoto Purple Sanga for a short time. They were back in J1. He played as a right-side defender. But again, the team finished last and went back to J2.
Kakuda returned to Nagoya Grampus Eight in 2007. But he soon moved back to Kyoto Sanga FC in March. He became a regular player as a central defender. His team finished third in the J2 League in 2007. This meant they were promoted back to J1.
From 2008, he played many games for Kyoto Sanga FC in J1. He played as a defender and a defensive midfielder. In 2010, the team was relegated to J2 again.
Time with Vegalta Sendai
In 2011, Kakuda joined Vegalta Sendai. This was a challenging year for the region. A big earthquake and tsunami hit Sendai. Despite this, Kakuda played very well. He was a regular defensive midfielder. Vegalta Sendai finished fourth in the league. This was their best result ever.
In 2012, Vegalta Sendai finished second in the J1 League. This allowed them to play in the 2013 AFC Champions League. This is a major competition for Asian clubs. Kakuda continued to play many games for Vegalta Sendai until 2014.
Later Club Career
In 2015, Kakuda moved to Kawasaki Frontale. He played as a central defender. Later that year, he joined Shimizu S-Pulse. The team was relegated to J2 at the end of 2015. This was the first time in their history.
In 2016, Shimizu S-Pulse finished second in J2. They were promoted back to J1. Kakuda played fewer games in 2018.
In 2019, he moved to V-Varen Nagasaki. This team was in the J2 League. He played there until 2020. In 2021, he played for Porvenir Asuka before retiring as a player.
National Team Experience
In November 2003, Makoto Kakuda was chosen to play for the Japan U-20 national team. He played in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship. He played four matches as a left-back defender in this tournament.
Becoming a Manager
After his playing career, Makoto Kakuda became a football manager. On July 31, 2024, he became the official first manager of Reilac Shiga. He is still managing the team today.
