What is Konjac Jelly?
Konjac jelly is a chewy, gelatin-like snack. It is made from the root of the konjac plant, which is also known as "konnyaku" in Japan. This plant-based food is popular because it's low in calories and has a unique, firm texture.
MannanLife's "Konnyaku Batake" snacks come in small, single-serving cups and are flavored like different fruits, such as grape, peach, and apple.
Product Safety and Changes

In the past, the original "Konnyaku Batake" jelly raised safety concerns. Because the jelly was very firm and came in a small, round shape, it was difficult to chew. This created a serious choking risk, especially for young children and older adults.
Due to these safety issues, MannanLife stopped selling the product on October 8, 2008. The company wanted to create a safer version for everyone to enjoy.
A New, Safer Snack
In 2009, MannanLife introduced a new product called "Lala Crush." This new version was designed to be much safer. Instead of one solid piece of jelly, Lala Crush has smaller, softer jelly pieces suspended inside a lighter, fruit-flavored gel. This makes it easier to break down when eating and reduces the risk of choking.
The company also added warnings on its packaging. These labels advise parents to cut the jelly into smaller pieces for young children and to watch them while they eat. Thanks to these changes, the company was able to sell its popular snacks again.
