Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón (born on January 2, 1940) is a famous Spanish screenwriter and film director. A screenwriter writes the story for a movie, and a film director guides the making of the movie. Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón has created many films that have won awards and been shown at important film festivals around the world.
For example, his 1973 film Habla, mudita was shown at the 23rd Berlin International Film Festival. In 1977, he won the Silver Bear for Best Director award for his film Camada negra at the 27th Berlin International Film Festival. This is a very important award for a director.
His film El corazón del bosque was also shown at the 29th Berlin International Film Festival in 1979. Later, his film Maravillas was part of the 31st Berlin International Film Festival. In 1982, his movie Demons in the Garden won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 13th Moscow International Film Festival. He even helped choose the winning films as a jury member at the 17th Moscow International Film Festival in 1991.
In 1995, his film King of the River was shown at the 45th Berlin International Film Festival.
Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón was chosen to be a member of the Real Academia Española on April 16, 2015. This is a very respected group in Spain that protects and promotes the Spanish language. He officially joined the group on January 24, 2016.
