Manuel Pérez de Guzmán y Pimentel (born 1671, died 1721) was an important Spanish nobleman. He became the Duke of Medina Sidonia in 1713. A duke is a very high-ranking noble title, often passed down through families.

Early Life and Family

Manuel Pérez de Guzmán was born in 1671. When he was 16 years old, in 1687, he married Luisa Maria de Silva Mendoza. She was 17 at the time. Luisa Maria came from another important noble family. Her father was Gregorio Maria Domingo, who held several duke titles, including the Duke of el Infantado. Manuel and Luisa Maria had ten children together.

Important Roles and Honors

Manuel Pérez de Guzmán received a very special honor called the Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. This was a famous and important award given to powerful people in Europe.

He also served as the Captain General of Catalonia. This was a significant military and governing role in Spain. He held this position between 1690 and 1693. As Captain General, he was in charge of the military forces and helped govern the region of Catalonia.
