A Sad Disappearance
María José was supposed to travel to London for the Miss World competition in December 2014. However, on November 13, 2014, she and her older sister, Sofía Trinidad Alvarado Muñoz, disappeared. They were last seen leaving a party in Santa Bárbara, Honduras.
The Discovery
Sadly, on November 19, the same day María José was expected to fly to London, her and her sister's bodies were found. They were discovered buried in a field near Cablotales, Honduras.
Reaction from Miss World
After this sad news, the Miss World organization announced that Honduras would not send another contestant to the pageant. This was done to show respect for María José and her sister.
Julia Morley, the head of the Miss World organization, shared her sadness. She said, "We are devastated by this terrible loss of two young women, who were so full of life." She also said that the Miss World pageant would hold a special memorial service. This service was held on November 23 to honor María José and her sister.
