Her Life and Family
Margaret was born in a city called Chester in 1757. Her birth name was Margaret Wrench. She later married Allen Holford, who was from a nearby town called Davenham. Margaret Holford passed away in Chester in November 1834.
Her daughter, also named Margaret Holford (born 1778, died 1852), grew up to be a very good writer too. Because they both had the same name and were both authors, sometimes their books and writings get mixed up in libraries and lists!
What She Wrote
Margaret Holford wrote different kinds of stories and poems. Here are some of her well-known works:
- Fanny: A Novel: In a Series of Letters, published in 1785. This was a novel, which is a long story, written as a series of letters. She published it without her name on it at first.
- Gresford Vale; and Other Poems, published in 1798. This book was a collection of her poems.
