Margaret T. Hance Park is a large public park located in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. It sits right above the Papago Freeway Tunnel, which is a unique feature. The park is named after Margaret Hance, who was a very important person in Phoenix history. She was the first woman to become the mayor of the city and she strongly supported the creation of this park.

The park is a central spot in Phoenix. It is located close to several interesting places like the Phoenix Center For The Arts, Ro Ho En (a beautiful Japanese Friendship Garden), and Kenilworth Elementary School. It's a place where people can gather, relax, and enjoy outdoor activities.

Exciting Park Renovations

In 2016, big plans were announced for Margaret T. Hance Park. The city decided to give the park a major update, often called a "face lift." This huge project is expected to cost $118 million and will take about ten years to complete.

What's New at the Park?

The renovation project will bring many exciting new features to the park. Some of the planned additions include:

  • An Amphitheatre: This will be a special outdoor area where concerts, plays, and other performances can take place.
  • A skate park: Skaters will have a dedicated space to practice their tricks and enjoy their sport.
  • Other improvements: The project will also add new green spaces, walking paths, and areas for different activities, making the park even more fun for everyone.

Historic Trolleys

As part of the park's improvements, two old, historic trolleys will be moved. These trolleys are currently at the Phoenix Trolley Museum. They will be relocated to a new, yet-to-be-decided spot. This move is part of the larger plan to update and improve the park's layout and features.
