Margaret Tynan (born November 15, 1930 – died October 28, 2007) was a very important person in Kilkenny, Ireland. She made history by becoming the first woman Mayor of Kilkenny city. She was first chosen for this role in 1969. After that, she was elected seven more times, showing how much people trusted her leadership.
Early Life and Interests
Margaret Tynan was the daughter of Pierce Tynan. Her father started a company called the Kilkenny Motor Company. Margaret went to school at Presentation Convent and Mount Rath. She even started studying medicine at University College Dublin.
However, she decided to return home before finishing her degree. She came back to help run her family's business. She also wanted to take care of her parents. Margaret had three brothers.
Margaret was also a talented rally driver. This means she raced cars on special courses. She sometimes even beat famous drivers like Rosemary Smith. Besides car racing, she enjoyed many other sports. These included golf, camogie, table tennis, and badminton. She was a very active and sporty person!
