Marguerite Lazarus (born 1 May 1916 – died 24 September 2004) was a British writer. She was born Marguerite Jackson in Durham, England. She started her writing career by creating exciting stories for children. For these books, she used the name Marguerite J. Gascoigne. Later, she wrote popular romance novels under the pen name Anna Gilbert. One of her romance novels, The Look of Innocence, won a special award in 1976. This award was the Romantic Novel of the Year Award from the Romantic Novelists' Association.

About Marguerite Lazarus

Marguerite Jackson was born in Durham, England, on 1 May 1916. She was a very good student. In 1937, she earned a special degree called a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with honors. Later, in 1957, she earned another degree, a Master of Arts (MA), both from Durham University.

After finishing her studies, Marguerite became an English teacher. She taught at a Grammar school from 1938 until 1973. On 5 April 1956, she married Jacob "Jack" Lazarus. Marguerite Lazarus passed away when she was 88 years old, on 24 September 2004, in North Yorkshire, England.

Her Writing Journey

Marguerite Lazarus had two different writing careers. First, she wrote books for younger readers. These books were known as children's fiction. For these stories, she used the name Marguerite J. Gascoigne.

Later, she began writing a different kind of book: gothic romance novels. These are stories that often combine love, mystery, and sometimes a bit of suspense. For these books, she used the pen name Anna Gilbert.
