Her Musical Journey
Marguerite Olagnier traveled to Egypt with her husband, Eugène Olagnier. While there, she wrote an opera called Le Saïs. An opera is a play where most of the words are sung, often with costumes and scenery. She wrote both the music and the story for Le Saïs. This opera was first performed in Paris on December 18, 1881. A famous singer named Victor Capoul later performed in it.
Later in her life, Marguerite led her own music group. It was called the Théâtre de l'Oratorio. They performed older musical pieces called oratorios every week. An oratorio is a large musical work, usually for voices and orchestra. It often tells a story, but it is performed without costumes or scenery.
Marguerite also wrote many songs. She composed two more operas, Le Persan and Lilipa. However, these operas were never performed for an audience. She also started writing a novel, but it was never finished.
