Maria Schwarz (1921–2018) was a famous German architect and professor. She was best known for designing churches.
Maria Schwarz: A Life in Architecture
Maria Lang was born on October 3, 1921, in Aachen, Germany. Her father was a builder. He helped her become interested in architecture when she was young.
In 1941, Maria started studying at RWTH Aachen University. She was the first woman to study architecture at that school. She earned her master's degree from the university in 1946.
Rebuilding Cities
In 1949, Maria moved to Cologne. She helped rebuild the city after World War II. In Cologne, she worked with another architect named Rudolf Schwarz. They got married in 1952.
After they married, Maria Schwarz became a partner in her husband's office. They worked together on many projects. They continued to collaborate until Rudolf passed away in 1961.
Later Years and Teaching
In 1998, Maria Schwarz joined the teachers at the Technical University of Munich. She shared her knowledge and experience with new students.
Maria Schwarz passed away on February 15, 2018. She left behind many important buildings, especially churches, that show her great skill as an architect.
