Maribel Guardia (born Maribel Del Rocío Fernández García on May 29, 1959) is a famous actress, singer, and TV host from Costa Rica and Mexico. She first became known after winning the Miss Costa Rica beauty pageant in 1978. After her win, she went on to compete in the Miss Universe 1978 pageant.

From Beauty Queen to Star
In 1978, Maribel was chosen as Miss Costa Rica. This gave her the chance to represent her country in two major international pageants: Miss Universe 1978 and Miss World 1978. In the Miss Universe contest, she won the special award for Miss Photogenic.
The Miss Universe pageant was held in Acapulco, Mexico. While she was there, a producer from the Mexican TV network Televisa offered her a chance to start a career. At first, she went back home to Costa Rica. But a few months later, she decided to take the offer and moved to Mexico to become a star.
A Career in Acting and Music
Maribel's career took off after she moved to Mexico in 1980. She quickly landed a role in her first television show. Soon, she became a popular actress in telenovelas, which are like Spanish-language soap operas.
Besides acting, Maribel is also a talented singer. She has released many albums in the Norteño music style, a popular type of Mexican folk music. Over the years, she has worked with major record labels like Musart Records and EMI Televisa Music.
She has acted with many famous actors, including Andrés García and Joan Sebastian. She starred with Joan Sebastian in the popular telenovela Tú y yo. She also appeared in movies like Pedro Navaja and El Rey de Los Taxistas.
Maribel has also starred in TV shows for children, like the telenovela Serafín. In 2008, she released a new album with the hit song "De Pecho A Pecho." Because of her long and successful career, she was honored with a star on the Paseo de las Luminarias in Mexico City, which is similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Personal Life
For five years, Maribel Guardia was in a relationship with the famous singer Joan Sebastian. They had one son together, Julián Figueroa, who also became a musician. Sadly, Julián passed away in 2023 at the age of 27.
Since 2010, Maribel has been married to Marco Chacón. She lives in Mexico City with her family.

Maribel Guardia has appeared in dozens of telenovelas and TV shows throughout her career. She is known for playing lead roles in many popular series.
Some of her most famous telenovelas include Prisionera de amor (1994), Tú y yo (1996), and Serafín (1999). She also had important roles in children's shows like Aventuras En El Tiempo (2001) and Misión S.O.S (2004). More recently, she was a main character in the two-part series Corona de lágrimas, which ran from 2012 to 2023.
