Marie-Josephine Clarice Gaudette (born March 25, 1902 – died July 13, 2017) was an amazing woman who lived to be 115 years old! She was an American-born Italian supercentenarian. A supercentenarian is someone who lives to be 110 years or older.

Marie-Josephine became the oldest living person in Italy after Emma Morano passed away on April 15, 2017. Emma Morano was actually the oldest person in the whole world at that time! Marie-Josephine then held this title for about three months until she also passed away.

Gaudette was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, United States. She was the oldest person born in the United States when Susannah Mushatt Jones died on May 12, 2016. She was also the oldest person ever to move from the U.S. to another country.

Life as a Nun

Marie-Josephine was a nun, a woman who dedicates her life to religious service. She was known as Mother Cecilia. She lived in an Italian convent, which is a home for nuns, from 1958 until she died. Because of her long life, she was thought to be "the world's oldest nun." Before settling in Italy, she lived in Canada and France. Mother Cecilia passed away on July 13, 2017, at the age of 115 years and 110 days.
