Early Life and Education

Marie Françoise Ouedraogo grew up in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. From a young age, she found mathematics easy and interesting. She studied at the University of Ouagadougou. In 1999, she earned her first advanced degree in mathematics. Her research was about a complex topic called Lie superalgebras. Her professor, Akry Koulibaly, guided her studies.

Later, she continued her education in France. She earned her Ph.D. from Blaise Pascal University in 2009. Her Ph.D. research focused on another advanced math area called pseudodifferential operators. She was guided by two professors, Sylvie Paycha and Akry Koulibaly. Marie Françoise Ouedraogo made history as the first woman from Burkina Faso to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics.

Work in Government

From 2005 to 2008, Marie Françoise Ouedraogo worked for her government. She was the permanent secretary for a program called "national policy of good governance." This program aimed to make sure that public services were run honestly and fairly. She worked hard to stop corruption, especially in public transportation. She believes that good governance is about having the right mindset.

Teaching and Research

Today, Marie Françoise Ouedraogo teaches mathematics at the University of Ouagadougou. She shares her knowledge with new students. Her main research areas are still pseudodifferential operators and superalgebras. These are advanced topics in mathematics.

Helping Women in Math

Marie Françoise Ouedraogo is very active in encouraging women to study mathematics. In 2009, she became the president of a group called the African Mathematical Union Commission on Women in Mathematics in Africa (AMUCWMA). This group works to get more girls in Africa interested in math. They hope girls will choose math as a career.

In 2012, she helped organize a workshop. This event aimed to create more interest in mathematics among African women. In 2013, she was chosen to be the president of a new group. This group is called the African Women in Mathematics Association. In 2014, she gave a speech about "Mathematics and Women." She talked about how women in different parts of the world face similar challenges in math.
