About Marie Hermanson
Marie Hermanson was born in Sävedalen. This is a suburb of Gothenburg, Sweden. She went to the Gothenburg School of Journalism. Later, she studied sociology and literature at Gothenburg University.
She worked for different newspapers for a while. In 1986, she published her first book. It was called Det finns ett hål i verkligheten (There is a Hole in Reality). This book used ideas from fairy tales and myths.
Her novel Snövit (1990) is her own version of the Snow White story. In other books like Tvillingsystrana (The Twin Sisters, 1993) and Värddjuret (The Parasite's Host, 1995), she added more real-life feelings to the fairy tale style. She also wrote Musselstranden (The Mussel Shore, 1998). Her writing style became more realistic. This was a popular trend in Nordic literature in the late 1900s.
Her book Himmelsdalen (2011) was a thriller. It was translated into English in 2013 as The Devil's Sanctuary. This story is about twin brothers who meet at a special clinic in the mountains.
