Marie Hermanson (born in 1956) is a Swedish writer and journalist. She is known for her novels that often use ideas from fairy tales and myths. Her writing style is very descriptive and realistic. Her book, The Devil's Sanctuary, was the first of her novels to be translated into English in 2013.

About Marie Hermanson
Marie Hermanson was born in Sävedalen. This is a suburb near Gothenburg, Sweden. She went to the Gothenburg School of Journalism. After that, she studied sociology and literature at the University of Gothenburg.
Her Career as a Writer
Marie Hermanson worked for different newspapers for a while. In 1986, she published her first book. It was called Det finns ett hål i verkligheten, which means "There is a Hole in Reality". This book, like many of her others, used themes from fairy tales and old stories.
Her novel Snövit (1990) is her own version of the classic Snow White story. She also wrote Tvillingsystrana (The Twin Sisters) in 1993. Other books include Värddjuret (The Parasite's Host) from 1995 and Musselstranden (The Mussel Shore) from 1998. In these books, she added a lot of feeling and realism to the fairy tale style. This was part of a trend in Nordic literature in the late 1900s.
The Devil's Sanctuary
One of her well-known books is Himmelsdalen, published in 2011. This book was translated into English in 2013. Its English title is The Devil's Sanctuary. It is a thrilling story about two twin brothers. They had been separated for a long time. They meet again at a special clinic in the mountains.
