Marieme Faye Sall served as the First Lady of Senegal from 2012 to 2024. She is the wife of former President Macky Sall. She is special because she was the first First Lady of Senegal to be fully Senegalese by birth and family background. Her family comes from the Fula and Serer people of Senegal.

Early Life and Education
Marieme Faye Sall was born in the city of Saint-Louis, Senegal. She was the fourth of eight children in her family. Her family has roots from both the Fula and Serer people of Senegal.
Moving to Diourbel
She went to primary school in Saint-Louis. Later, her family moved to Diourbel, a city in central Senegal. She finished high school there with a technical degree.
University Studies
After high school, she went to the Higher Institute of Technology at Cheikh Anta Diop University. She studied electrical engineering there. However, she left university before graduating. This was after her first child was born.
Family Life
Marieme met her future husband, Macky Sall, in 1992. At that time, she was still in high school. They got married in 1995. After getting married and having their first child, she left her university studies. Marieme and Macky Sall have three children together.
Role in Politics
During her husband's presidential campaign in 2012, Marieme Faye Sall was a strong supporter. She gave him advice and helped him during his campaign. She did not get involved in the daily plans of his political party, the Alliance for the Republic. Macky Sall won the election on March 25, 2012.
Becoming First Lady
On April 2, 2012, Marieme Faye Sall became the fourth First Lady of Senegal. This was an important moment for the country. She was the first First Lady who was Black and Muslim. She was also the first fully Senegalese First Lady to be born and raised in the country.
Previous First Ladies
Senegal's first and third First Ladies, Colette Senghor and Viviane Wade, were both from France. Another former First Lady, Elizabeth Diouf, had a Lebanese father and a Senegalese mother. Because of her background, many Senegalese women called Marieme Faye Sall a "real Senegalese lady."
Charity Work
During her time as First Lady, Marieme Faye Sall started a charity called the Serve Senegal Foundation. She was the head of the charity's board of directors. This foundation worked on different projects to help people in Senegal.
