Maritime Region facts for kids
The Maritime Region is one of the five main areas, or regions, in the country of Togo. It's located along the coast, right next to the Atlantic Ocean. The biggest city in this region is Lomé, which is also the capital city of all of Togo! This means Lomé is a very important place for the whole country.
What is the Maritime Region?
The Maritime Region is special because it's where Togo meets the sea. It's a busy area with a lot of people living there. The region gets its name "Maritime" because it's connected to the ocean. This connection is important for trade and travel.
Prefectures of the Maritime Region
Just like a country is divided into regions, each region is divided into smaller parts called prefectures. Think of them like smaller districts or counties. The Maritime Region has seven of these prefectures:
- Avé Prefecture
- Golfe Prefecture
- Lacs Prefecture
- Lomé (This is both a city and its own prefecture!)
- Vo Prefecture
- Yoto
- Zio Prefecture
Each prefecture has its own local government. They help manage things like schools, roads, and local services for the people living there.
