Mark Farren (born May 1, 1982 – died February 3, 2016) was a talented Irish footballer. He played as a forward and was best known for his time with Derry City.

Mark Farren's Football Journey
Early Career Steps
Mark Farren started his football journey in the youth teams of Tranmere Rovers. He also spent some time at Huddersfield Town. After these experiences, he came back to his home county in Ireland. He joined Finn Harps, but he didn't get many chances to play in the first team.
Later, Mark moved to Monaghan United, another team in the League of Ireland First Division. Here, he became a regular player. He quickly became known as a fast and promising striker. His good performances led him to join Derry City in 2003.
Success with Derry City
In 2005, Mark Farren had a fantastic season with Derry City. He played really well and scored 18 league goals in 31 games. Overall, he scored 22 goals that season. Because of his amazing form, he was named the PFAI Player of the Year.
In 2006, Mark continued to be a key player for Derry City. He helped the team win the FAI Cup. He also played a big part in keeping Derry in the race for the league title until the very last day. He finished the 2006 season with 18 goals.
In 2010, Mark was very important in helping Derry City get promoted from the First Division. He scored 20 goals that season. He even scored the winning goal in the last game against Monaghan United, which secured the championship for Derry.
In September 2012, Mark made history for Derry City. He scored his 113th goal, becoming the club's all-time top scorer. He passed the previous record held by Liam Coyle.
Later Years and Legacy
In August 2012, it was announced that Mark would move to Glenavon in January 2013. He made his debut for Glenavon on January 5, 2013, and scored his first goal for them soon after.
Sadly, Mark Farren passed away on February 3, 2016, after a battle with cancer. To honor him, Derry City decided to retire the number 18 jersey. This was the number he wore during his time at the club, showing how much he meant to them.
