Mark Stacey is a well-known Welsh expert in old and valuable items, called antiques. He works as a valuer and an auctioneer. You might also know him from his many appearances on BBC TV shows, where he shares his knowledge about antiques.
Mark Stacey's Journey with Antiques
Mark Stacey was born on 23 September 1964, in Neath, South Wales. He later moved to London. There, he worked for famous auction houses like Bonhams and Sotheby's. An auction house is a place where valuable items are sold to the highest bidder.
Mark Stacey is a familiar face on BBC television. He appears as an expert on shows such as Bargain Hunt, Flog It!, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and Antiques Road Trip. On these shows, he helps people understand the value of their old treasures.
In 2009, he was interviewed on The Daily Politics. He gave advice on how much certain items owned by famous people might be worth.
In 2011, Mark Stacey opened his own antiques shop. It was located in Kemptown, Brighton, in East Sussex.
Later, in 2014, he joined Reeman Dansie auctioneers in Colchester, Essex. While working there, he made an exciting discovery. He found an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus (an old stone coffin) in a house in Essex. This amazing find was later sold for £13,500!

Mark Stacey has one brother and two sisters. Before he started working with antiques, he was a social worker. He helped people in residential care.
He first began in the antiques world as a dealer. Then, he started working with different auction houses. Mark Stacey also has a special talent for playing the organ. He sometimes plays music at his local Methodist church.
