Marmato is a small town and a municipality in the country of Colombia. It is located in the Caldas Department. Marmato was founded a long time ago, in 1540. Today, about 8,485 people live there.

History of Gold Mining

The Arrival of Cornish Miners
In the 1800s, many miners came to Marmato from a place called Cornwall in England. These Cornish people were very skilled at mining. They traveled all the way to Colombia to work in the gold mines. They brought their mining knowledge and culture with them.
