Marquis D. Jones Jr. is a lawyer who has held important roles in the legal system. He served as a judge in the New Jersey Superior Court in Ocean County from 2008 to 2015. At that time, he was one of only two African American judges in Ocean County. Before becoming a judge, Mr. Jones worked for the city of Newark in its Law Department from 2006 to 2008. He worked under Cory A. Booker, who was the Mayor of Newark then. When Mr. Jones became a judge, Mayor Booker said he was "inspirational."
Early Career and Education
Before becoming a judge, Marquis D. Jones Jr. worked as a Deputy Attorney General for New Jersey. This means he was a lawyer working for the state government. From 2003 to 2006, he worked in the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor. In this role, he helped investigate and bring cases against people who committed healthcare fraud. He also helped put together reports for the Governor and state lawmakers in 2004 and 2005.
Mr. Jones studied at Rutgers Law School and graduated in 1994. Before that, he earned his first degree from Rutgers University New Brunswick in 1991. He studied journalism and economics. Today, he works as a family law attorney at Weinberger Law Group, helping families with legal matters.
Time as a Judge
