Martín de Béjar's Life

Martín de Béjar was born in a city called Seville. This city is located in Spain. He became a priest in a special group called the Order of Friars Minor. These priests are also known as Franciscans.

In 1527, a very important leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Clement VII, chose Martín de Béjar to be the Bishop of Panamá. During his time as bishop, something big happened. The main office of the diocese, which is like the headquarters, was moved. It went from one place to Panama City, which is on the Pacific coast.

Martín de Béjar continued to serve as Bishop until he died in 1530.
