It is found on the Yankton Indian Reservation. The Yankton Sioux Tribe owns the school buildings and manages how the school is run.
The school offers a boarding program for students in grades 7 through 12. This means older students can live at the school. There are separate dormitories, or living areas, for boys and girls.
School History and Leadership
Marty Indian School has a long history of educating students. In the 1990s, Laurel Vermillion served as the principal, helping to lead the school.
Later, in May 2017, Timothy Stathis became the principal. He tried to start a program to give teachers extra pay. This bonus was based on how well their students scored. Some people at the school did not agree with this new plan. On November 15, 2017, a peaceful protest took place. Mr. Stathis was told his job would end on December 1, 2017. His contract was originally set to finish in June 2018.
