Mary Constance Charteris, Countess of Wemyss and March (born Wyndham; August 3, 1862 – April 29, 1937) was a well-known English society hostess. She was also a founding member of a special social and intellectual group called The Souls. From 1883 to 1914, she was known as Lady Elcho.

Mary Constance Wyndham was born on August 3, 1862, in London. Her family lived in a place called Belgrave Square. She was the oldest daughter of Percy Wyndham and Madeline Caroline Frances Eden Campbell. Her grandfathers were important figures in their time.
Mary had two brothers, George and Guy Wyndham. She also had two younger sisters, Madeline and Pamela. Her sisters later married into important families.

Her Family and Marriage
Mary Wyndham married Hugo Charteris, Lord Elcho, on August 9, 1883. Hugo later became the 11th Earl of Wemyss and 7th Earl of March. Together, they had seven children:

Mary was also the grandmother of several notable people. These included the society hostess Ann Charteris and the novelist Hugo Charteris.

Mary Constance Charteris passed away on April 29, 1937.
