Sister Mary Langan is a kind Irish nun. She has worked in Pakistan since 1983. In 2013, she received a special award. It was called the Tamgha-e-Quaid-e-Azam. The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, gave it to her. This award was for her amazing work in teaching and helping children learn.

Sister Mary's Early Life

Mary Langan was born in Ireland. Her birthday is June 17, 1948. Her parents were Michael and Marian. She went to a boarding school. It was called Gortnor Abbey. This school was in Crossmolina, County Mayo. She studied there with the Sisters of Jesus and Mary. In 1969, she decided to become a nun. She joined the Congregation of Jesus and Mary.

Her Work in Pakistan

Sister Mary came to Pakistan in 1983. For six years, she taught in Sialkot. She worked at the Convent of Jesus and Mary school. Later, she moved to the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Karachi. She became the Principal of that school.

She also taught religious lessons to children. She helped them get ready for Confirmation. This was at the Catechetical Center. Sister Mary also taught at the Notre Dame Institute of Education. She even taught nurses at the Holy Family Hospital. She was part of the Catholic Board of Education in Karachi. She also served on the council for St. Anthony's Church.

In April 2018, a new school campus was started. It was for the Convent of Jesus and Mary School. The Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, started the project. He praised Sister Mary Langan. He also thanked Sister Berchmans Conway. He said they kept the school's teaching standards very high.

Golden Jubilee Celebration

On April 24, 2019, Sister Mary celebrated a special day. It was her golden jubilee. This means she had been a member of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary for 50 years! The celebration started with a special Mass. It was held at St. Anthony's church. Many important church leaders were there. This included Joseph Cardinal Coutts. He is the Archbishop of Karachi. Benedict Travas, the Bishop of Multan, was also there. Many other priests joined them.
