Mary Louise Peebles (1833–1915) was an American author. She wrote many stories for children. She was also known by her pen name, Lynde Palmer.
About Mary Louise Peebles
Mary Louise Peebles was born in Lansingburgh, New York on December 10, 1833. Lansingburgh is now part of the city of Troy, New York. Her parents were Elias Ripley Parmelee and Eleanor Allen. Her family had lived in Lansingburgh for a long time.
She finished her schooling at the Lansingburgh Academy when she was seventeen. On July 7, 1862, she married Anthony Augustus Peebles, who was a banker.
Mary Louise Peebles lived in Lansingburgh, New York, her whole life. She passed away on April 25, 1915, at the age of 81.
Her Writing Career
Mary Louise Peebles started writing children's stories around 1861. Her first book was called The Little Captain. Over the next twenty years, she wrote many more books for young readers.
In 1877, she published The Magnet Stories. This was a collection of children's tales. Some of the stories in this collection included Drifting and Steering, One Day’s Weaving, Archie’s Shadow, and John Jack.
