Mary Mouse is a famous character created by Enid Blyton. Enid Blyton was a very popular British author who wrote many children's books in the 1900s. Mary Mouse is a little mouse who has to leave her home. She finds a job as a maid in a dolls' house, working for a character called Sailor Doll.
The first books about Mary Mouse were printed in a special way. They were small, about 15 by 7 centimeters, and had soft covers with pictures. Because of World War II and a lack of paper, these early books were made simply. They had basic color drawings and were held together with staples and linen tape.
Many girls especially loved Mary Mouse. The first books are now quite rare and valuable to collectors. This is because not many of them are still in good condition. These books were very popular when they first came out. They sold over one million copies in total.
