Mary Mozeen, born Mary Edwards, was a talented British singer and actress. She was born around 1724 and lived until about 1773. She became well-known for her singing and acting skills on the stage in the 1700s.

Early Life and Stage Debut

Mary's parents might have been Thomas and Mary Edwards. Her father worked for the King's music. In 1724, he changed his will to include Mary and her brother Thomas. This suggests Mary was born in or before 1724.

It is believed that famous actress Kitty Clive helped train Mary. Mary first appeared on stage on November 17, 1737. She performed with a group called the Lilliputian Company.

Becoming a Valued Performer

Mary's singing skills quickly became very popular. She soon became a well-known name in the theater world. Some of her early roles were in plays like The Burgomaster Trick'd and The Dragon of Wantley. She also played the character Glowworm in Robin Goodfellow.

On March 8, 1740, Kitty Clive starred in an opera called Rosamond at Drury Lane. Kitty Clive had helped Mary, and Mary became her student. Mary played the role of the page in this opera. A few days later, Mary also performed at a special show for Kitty Clive.

In 1741, Mary joined the actors at Lincoln's Inn Fields Theatre. Her beautiful soprano voice was used in musical works by the famous composer Handel.

Working with Kitty Clive

Mary returned to Covent Garden in 1744. There, she performed again with Kitty Clive. On March 17, she appeared in a play called The Merchant of Venice.

Mary married a fellow actor and writer named Thomas Mozeen on May 19, 1746. Over time, it was said that Mary and Kitty Clive grew apart.

Life in Ireland and Later Years

In 1748, Mary Mozeen and Thomas Mozeen traveled to Ireland. They worked for Thomas Sheridan in Dublin. Mary returned to work for Sheridan later that year. However, her husband's location was unknown for a while.

Thomas Mozeen reappeared in 1750. He worked in smaller roles at Drury Lane for fourteen years. He wrote a play called Heiress, or Antigallican. This play was about a girl who was raised as a boy. It was performed once in 1759 and published later.

Mary's husband, Thomas, passed away in 1768. Mary herself is thought to have died in 1773.
