Maselekwane Modjadji I was a very special leader in South Africa. She was the first ever Rain Queen of the Balobedu tribe. She ruled for many years, from 1800 until her death in 1854. After her, her daughter, Masalanabo Modjadji II, became the next Rain Queen.
Maselekwane was the daughter of Mugodo, who was the Chief of the Kranga, and Princess Dzungundini.

Maselekwane Modjadji I had two daughters. Her most famous daughter was Masalanabo Modjadji. Masalanabo followed in her mother's footsteps. She became the second Rain Queen after Maselekwane passed away in 1854. Maselekwane's other daughter was Princess Leakhali Modjadji.
