MasterChef is a super popular TV show where people compete to see who is the best cook! It's a cooking show that started in the United Kingdom in July 1990. The idea for the show was created by Franc Roddam.

The show was brought back and updated in February 2005 by Franc Roddam and John Silver. Now, the new version of MasterChef is shown all over the world by a company called Banijay. The very first country outside the UK to make its own MasterChef show was Australia in 2009. Since then, many other countries have made their own versions too!

How the Show Works

The MasterChef show is known all over the world, using the same famous logo. It's now made in more than 40 countries and shown in over 200 places!

There are usually four main types of MasterChef shows:

  • The regular MasterChef series, where everyday people compete.
  • MasterChef: The Professionals, which is for chefs who cook for a living.
  • Celebrity MasterChef, where famous people show off their cooking skills.
  • Junior MasterChef, a special version made just for kids! This one first started in 1994 and has become popular in many countries recently.

Besides these main versions, some countries have created their own unique twists. For example, in 2012, Australia made MasterChef All-Stars. This show brought back past contestants to cook and raise money for charity. In 2018, Ukraine created MasterChef Teens just for teenagers. Brazil even made a show called MasterChef: Para Tudo (which means MasterChef: Stop Everything), where they interviewed judges and old contestants, shared recipes, and even talked about funny internet memes!

MasterChef is really popular with people everywhere. MasterChef Australia is one of the most-watched TV shows in Australia. The final episode of its second season was even the third most-watched show in Australian TV history! MasterChef Australia also won an award for 'Most Popular Reality Program' in 2010. Many other countries even watch the Australian version, either with the voices changed to their language (called dubbed) or with subtitles so they can read along.

In 2018, a company called Animoca got the rights to make mobile games based on the MasterChef show.
