MasterChef India – Tamil (or just MasterChef Tamil) is a fun cooking TV show from India. It's based on the famous MasterChef Australia show. This series is part of the bigger MasterChef India family.
The show is made by Innovative Film Academy and Endemol Shine India. You can watch it on Sun TV. The popular actor Vijay Sethupathi is the host. The first season was supposed to start in May 2021. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, it began later on August 7, 2021. This Tamil version of MasterChef was special. It made the MasterChef TV show format reach over 500 seasons around the world!
In November 2021, the show was renewed for a second season. This new season is expected to air sometime in 2022.

How the Show Works
This cooking competition features 14 everyday people as contestants. Three professional chefs act as judges. The show airs every Saturday and Sunday on Sun TV at 9:30 PM (India Time).
In Season 1, 24 contestants first competed. Only 14 of them made it to the main part of the show. The winner of MasterChef Tamil gets some amazing prizes. These include their own restaurant and a special chef coat. They also win 25,00,000 Indian Rupees in cash and the MasterChef trophy!
Episode Challenges
MasterChef India - Tamil usually airs two nights a week. Each night has a different type of episode. However, sometimes the show changes the format a little bit. Here's how the typical episodes work:
Saturdays usually have a cooking challenge. Home cooks might do a Mystery Challenge. They could also work in pairs or as a team. Contestants must prepare a dish using a special ingredient. The judges then pick the best dishes. Those cooks are safe from the Pressure Test. Cooks who don't do well go on to the Pressure Test.
Sundays often feature a Pressure Test. This is also called an Elimination Challenge. The three contestants who did poorly on Saturday compete. They get a recipe for a specific dish. They must try to cook it perfectly in a set time. The judges taste their food. The contestant with the weakest performance is eliminated from the competition.

Season 1 Highlights
The first season of MasterChef India – Tamil started on August 7, 2021. Vijay Sethupathi was the host. The judges were professional chefs Harish Rao, Aarthi Sampath, and Koushik S. You could watch the show every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 PM on Sun TV. It was also available to stream on the Sun NXT platform.
The winner of Season 1 was Devaki Vijayaraman from Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Nithya Franklyn was the runner-up.
Making the Show
How it Started
In early 2021, Sun TV Network got the rights to produce MasterChef in the Tamil language. This meant they could create their own version of the popular cooking show.
Filming the Episodes
Filming for MasterChef India – Tamil began in late June 2021. The show was filmed at Innovative Film City in Bengaluru.
Other MasterChef Shows
MasterChef is a very popular show around the world. In India, it has been made in different regional languages. The first Indian version was in Hindi, called MasterChef India. Later, it was adapted into Telugu as MasterChef India – Telugu. There are also plans to create MasterChef shows in Kannada and Malayalam languages.
