Matthew David Benson, known as Matt B, is an American singer, songwriter, and music producer. In 2022, his song Gimme Love, featuring Eddy Kenzo, was nominated for a Grammy Award. It also reached number 36 on Billboard's US Afrobeats Songs chart. In 2025, Matt B won a Grammy Award for "Best Global Music Album" for his album ALKEBULAN II.

Matt B's Music Journey

Matt B started his solo music career in 2009. He has released eight studio albums since then. His music often blends R&B, Hip hop, and Afrobeats styles.

Early Albums and Success

His album Love and War was released in 2014 by StarBase Records in Tokyo. In 2016, Matt B released his second album, Dive, which he produced himself. This album became very popular, reaching number 1 on the iTunes R&B Chart in Japan.

In 2018, Matt B worked with producer Bryan-Michael Cox to create the EP (Extended Play) called RISE. This EP was released by Priority Records. His song Losing You from this EP won him the Best R&B Male Artist award at the Indie Music Channel Awards.

Eden and Grammy Recognition

Matt B released his first album in the US, Eden, in 2021. This album was produced by Bryan-Michael Cox and Tricky Stewart. Eden received good reviews and appeared on Billboard's Top 40 R&B Albums chart. The song Deep from the album was also well-received.

In 2025, Matt B achieved a major milestone by winning a Grammy Award. He won for "Best Global Music Album" for his work on ALKEBULAN II.

Gimme Love with Eddy Kenzo

In 2021, Matt B teamed up with Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo. They co-wrote and recorded the song Gimme Love. In 2022, this single was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance. It also charted at number 36 on Billboard's US Afrobeats Songs chart.

The music video for Gimme Love won many awards at film festivals. It won Best Song at the New York International Film Festival. Matt B's wife and manager, Angela Valarie Benson, also won an award for directing the music video. Matt B and Eddy Kenzo performed Gimme Love for over 100,000 people at the Eddy Kenzo Festival in Uganda.

Advocating for Music Creators

In 2025, Matt B was recognized by The Recording Academy for his efforts to protect the rights of music creators. He regularly meets with members of Congress to discuss laws that affect the music community.
