Matthew Barnett is an American pastor and the co-founder of the Dream Center. He is also the main pastor of the Angelus Temple in Echo Park, Los Angeles. This church is a very important part of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

The Dream Center: Helping the Community

Matthew Barnett's father, Tommy Barnett, is also a pastor. His church, Dream City Church, is a very large church in Phoenix, Arizona.

In September 1994, Matthew's father's church bought an old hospital building in Los Angeles. This building was once the Queen of Angels Hospital. They wanted to turn it into a place to help people in need.

By 1997, Matthew, who was 23 years old, started managing this new project. It became known as The Dream Center. The Dream Center helps people by offering many different services. It provides food, shelter, and support to families and individuals. It also helps people learn new skills for jobs.

Today, The Dream Center helps over 35,000 people every week. It has more than 270 different programs and ways to reach out to the community. The center is open all day, every day, to help people whenever they need it.

Angelus Temple: A Historic Church Revived

The Angelus Temple is a famous church that was started in 1923 by Aimee Semple McPherson. In November 2001, the Angelus Temple joined with The Dream Center. Matthew Barnett then became the main pastor for both the Dream Center and the Angelus Temple.

Before this, the Angelus Temple was not as active as it used to be. Its main worship hall had not been used regularly for many years. The church had only a small group of older members. Meanwhile, the Dream Center was holding its services in a very crowded gym.

After the two organizations joined, the Angelus Temple's main worship hall was fixed up. This renovation cost $7 million. Now, this historic building is used for the Dream Center's services, bringing new life to the church.

Matthew Barnett has received awards for his work. In 1999, he got the Religious Heritage Award. Former U.S. President George W. Bush also praised his efforts and achievements in helping the community.

Personal Life and Inspiration

Matthew Barnett has faced personal challenges. Before starting his work with the Dream Center, he had a serious health issue. Doctors told him he might not be able to run long distances. However, he later ran several marathons. He did this to help raise awareness and money for The Dream Center. His actions showed his strong dedication to helping others.
