Forming Drowners

The band got its name when Justin Hayward-Young from The Vaccines called Hitt. Young asked if Hitt had a band ready to open for The Vaccines. At that time, Hitt's band didn't have a name. Hitt was listening to the song "The Drowners" by Suede. He decided to use that name for his new band.

Hitt has described the lyrics for Drowners' songs. He says they often have a serious or sad meaning. However, the music itself is usually upbeat and good for dancing.
