Life and Career
Growing Up in a Musical Family
Maureen Nolan was born in Dublin, Ireland. She was the fourth of eight children in her family. Her parents were Tommy and Maureen Nolan. She grew up with her sisters Anne, Denise, Linda, Bernie, and Coleen, who would all become singers with her. The family moved from Ireland to Blackpool, England, in 1962.
Success with The Nolans
Maureen and her sisters formed the pop group The Nolans. They became very popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their biggest hit was the song "I'm in the Mood for Dancing" in 1979. The song was a huge success, reaching number one on music charts in Japan and South Africa.
The group's lineup changed sometimes. When her sister Anne left the group for a while, Coleen joined. In 1981, The Nolans won the Tokyo Music Festival with their song "... Music".
The sisters got back together for special performances over the years. In 2005, they sang "I'm In the Mood for Dancing" on a BBC television show. In 2009, Maureen and her sisters went on a reunion tour. The group performed together again in 2020 and stayed together until 2022.
Later Work
Maureen has continued to perform even after the group stopped touring. She often appears in plays and theater shows across the United Kingdom.
In 2020, Maureen and her sisters starred in a TV series for the Quest Red channel called The Nolans Go Cruising. The show followed the sisters as they traveled on a cruise ship.
