Maurice Wynn facts for kids
Maurice Wynn (born before 1520 – died August 18, 1580) was an important Welsh leader and politician. He was also known as Morys Wynn ap John. He came from a famous family in Gwydir, Wales.
Maurice Wynn was the oldest son of John "Wynn" ap Maredudd. When his father passed away in 1559, Maurice took over the family's large estate at Gwydir.

Family Life and Children
Maurice Wynn was married three times and had many children.
First Marriage
In 1551, Maurice married Jane Bulkeley. She was the daughter of Sir Richard Bulkeley. From this marriage, they had three sons and five daughters. One of their sons was John Wynn, 1st Baronet, who later became a very important person. One daughter, Margaret, married Thomas Salisbury.
Second Marriage
His second wife was Anne Greville. She passed away around 1570.
Third Marriage
Before January 1573, Maurice married his third wife, Katheryn of Berain. They had four children together:
- Edward Wynn, who married Blanche Vaughan.
- Siân (Jane) Wynn, who later married Simon Thelwall.
- Morris Wynn, born in 1563.
- Robert Wynn.

Maurice Wynn was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Caernarvonshire. This meant he represented his local area in the main law-making body of the country. He served as an MP three times: in October 1553, April 1554, and again in 1563.

He was also the Custos Rotulorum of Caernarvonshire from before 1562 until after 1577. This role meant he was the chief justice of the peace for the county. He was responsible for keeping important records and making sure justice was carried out.
His Legacy
Maurice Wynn's oldest son, John Wynn, 1st Baronet, became his heir. John continued the family's important role in Welsh society and politics.
