Mauro Picotto (born December 25, 1966) is a well-known Italian electronic music producer and DJ. He creates and plays music that makes people want to dance!

Before becoming a solo artist, Mauro was part of an Italian dance music group called "R.A.F.". He became very famous on his own with hit songs like "Komodo (Save a Soul)", "Pulsar", "Iguana", and "Lizard". He has also worked with other big names in electronic music, such as Tiësto and Mario Più.

Today, Mauro Picotto runs his own club night called Meganite. It's named after one of his early songs from the 2000s. Meganite has been held every year since 2004 at a famous club in Ibiza, Spain, called Privilege Ibiza. He also produces music under his own record label, Bakerloo.

Mauro Picotto's Life and Music Journey

Mauro Picotto was born in a small Italian town called Cavour, which is close to Turin. His family had a unique background: his father worked as a stonemason, building things with stone, and his family also loved to dance! Mauro's father's stone yard was called CRW, a name Mauro later used for one of his own music projects.

Mauro really wanted to create his own music. He felt that to be successful, he first needed to become a great DJ. He entered a national TV competition for top DJs in Italy called the Walky Cup and won! After his win, he met Daniele Davoli, a music producer. This meeting helped Mauro start his journey into producing records. His very first song, "We Gonna Get," released under the name R.A.F., became a top 20 hit across many parts of Europe.

Between 1992 and 1996, his group R.A.F. released several popular dance songs. One of their songs, "We've Got to Live Together," even became a top 40 hit in the UK. Mauro helped write this song with other producers at Media Studios, including the head of the Media record label, Gianfranco Bortolotti.

Mauro and Gianfranco worked together again a few years later and had even greater success. They co-wrote a song called "Light My Fire." When it was remixed by Gianfranco's group Cappella, it became a huge Eurodance hit. This song reached number 7 in the United Kingdom in 1994. Mauro also helped remix and write songs for other Eurodance groups like Cappella and the 49ers.

In 1996, Gianfranco Bortolotti made Mauro a partner in Media Records. Around the same time, a song Mauro released under his own name, "Bakerloo Symphony," became a number one hit in Italy for eight weeks!

In 1998, Mauro released "Lizard (Gonna Get You)," which became a popular song in clubs. It reached the top 30 on the UK Singles Chart. He then released two more songs with reptile names: "Iguana" and "Komodo (Save a Soul)." "Komodo" became his highest-charting solo song in the UK, reaching number 13. This success led to his only solo performance on the famous BBC TV show Top of the Pops. Mauro Picotto was the first DJ to mix music live on that show!

Other songs he was involved in also did well on the UK music charts. "I Feel Love," released under his CRW name, reached number 15 in 2000. "Communication (Somebody Answer the Phone)," which he produced with Mario Più, reached the UK top 5 in late 1999.

His remix of "On the Beach" by York also helped that song reach the UK top 5 in 2000. Mauro released two solo albums, The Double Album in 2000 and The Others in 2002. He also created remixes and productions for famous artists like Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Somerville, the Pet Shop Boys, and U2.

In 2002, Mauro left Media Records and started his own company, Bakerloo Music. He also launched a new record label called Alchemy. He released several club tracks, including "New Time New Place." That same year, he started his Meganite party at the Miami Winter Music Conference.

On May 7, 2005, Mauro Picotto was the main DJ on the dance stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Sunderland, playing for thousands of fans.

Mauro has released several Meganite Ibiza albums on the Big in Ibiza label. His Meganite party is still held every Wednesday at the Privilege club in Ibiza. In May 2017, he released his album A Call in the Club.
