Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Mawbey Baronetcy was a special type of noble title in Great Britain. It was created on July 30, 1765, for a man named Joseph Mawbey. He was known as Sir Joseph Mawbey, 1st Baronet. This title was connected to a place called Botleys in Surrey, England.

Joseph Mawbey was an important person in politics. He served as a Member of Parliament, which means he was elected to represent areas like Southwark and Surrey in the government. The Mawbey Baronetcy title eventually ended in 1817 when the second Baronet passed away.

Who Were the Mawbey Baronets?

A baronetcy is a hereditary title, meaning it can be passed down through families, usually from father to son. It's a bit like being a knight, but the title stays in the family. The Mawbey Baronetcy had two people who held the title:

Sir Joseph Mawbey, 1st Baronet

  • Sir Joseph Mawbey, 1st Baronet (1730–1798) was the first person to receive this title. He was a well-known politician in his time. He helped make laws and represent the people of his area in Parliament.

Sir Joseph Mawbey, 2nd Baronet

  • Sir Joseph Mawbey, 2nd Baronet (around 1770–1817) inherited the title from his father. He married Charlotte Caroline Maria in 1796. She was the daughter of Thomas Henchman. However, the second Sir Joseph Mawbey did not have any sons to pass the title on to. Because of this, the Mawbey Baronetcy ended when he died in 1817. The family's estate at Botleys was sold not long after his death. His wife, Charlotte, lived until 1832.
