Discovering the Mayflower House Museum

This grand house was first built in 1754. It was the home of Edward Winslow. He was a "Loyalist," which means he stayed loyal to Britain during the American Revolution. When the war started, he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Sadly, he passed away soon after.

Edward Winslow was also the great-grandson of another famous Edward Winslow. This earlier Edward Winslow was the third Governor of Plymouth Colony. So, the house connects to a very important family in American history! Inside the museum, you can see furniture and decorations from the 1700s. It's like stepping back in time!

A Famous Wedding at the House

The Mayflower House Museum has seen many important moments. On September 14, 1835, a very famous writer got married here! Ralph Waldo Emerson, a well-known American poet and philosopher, married his second wife, Lidian Jackson Emerson, right in the house's parlor. Imagine a wedding happening in that very room!
