The McCanna–Hubbell Building is a special old building in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's also known as the AG&E Building. This two-story brick building was built in 1915. It has a cool, decorative top edge called a cornice.

From 1917 until the mid-1960s, this building was the main office for the Albuquerque Gas & Electric Company. This company later became the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM). During those years, the building was decorated with hundreds of electric light bulbs! The spots where these bulbs were are still there today. Later, PNM moved its offices to a different building nearby.

A Look at the McCanna–Hubbell Building

The McCanna–Hubbell Building is a great example of old-style commercial buildings. It shows how buildings were designed a long time ago. Its strong brick walls and fancy cornice make it stand out.

Unique Light Bulb Decorations

One of the most interesting things about the building was its electric light display. Imagine hundreds of light bulbs lighting up the outside! This was a big deal back then. It showed off the power of electricity. It also showed that the building was home to an electric company.

Why This Building is Important

The McCanna–Hubbell Building is considered a very important historical place. It was added to the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties in 1981. This means the state of New Mexico recognized it as a special building.

A year later, in 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places across the whole country that are important to history. Being on these lists helps protect the building. It makes sure future generations can learn from it.
