Early Days and Name Change
- In 1878, a post office was opened in the area. It was first called McNary Station.
- Just a few years later, in 1882, the name was made shorter to simply McNary.
- The community itself was named after a businessperson who worked in the mining industry. This means they were involved with getting valuable minerals, like coal, out of the ground.
Post Office Closure
- The McNary post office served the community for many years.
- However, it eventually closed its doors in 1937.
